Dear Dr. Klag, Colleen and the entire VSEC staff,

I want to thank you so much for helping me to have Spike, with all of his ailments, for almost 16 years, and for loving and treating him as if he were your own.  Spike had a lot of issues, all of which you treated and cured or kept under control, but for him to live happily with bladder cancer for 2 ½ years, and compromised kidneys, which finally took over his health, that says everything about the loving, caring treatment he received from you, along with the love he received at home from my family.

In the last 14 years, Spike has had many trips to VSEC for emergency reasons, and the doctors and nurses always treated him with lots of tender, loving care.

I consider VSEC part of my family, and I will miss everyone very much.  Thank you, again, for all of your kindness, compassion, patience and everything you did for us.

Outstanding compassionate care! Dr. Orsher explained in detail what our options were and answered all of our questions. He made us feel comfortable leaving our beloved Heidi Marie in his care. In follow-up conversations after surgery with the residents they also displayed a very caring manner. All the staff we interacted with from those answering the phone, front desk personnel, nurses and physicians showed a high level of genuine concern for us and our very special canine family member.

We are happy with the quality of vet care and support staff. 
1. All staff are humanely/empathetically connected to people and pet (from front desk intake staff to vet).
2.The vets make communication part of their practice (most human doctors don't do this and act like they don't have time for patients and families).
3. The vets make follow-up calls to patient's home after care and daily updates.
4. Vet nurses are a great idea and they do patient education.
5. VSEC offers visitation during hospitalization.
6. The discharge paperwork clearly listing all treatments, assessments, and costs are terrific. (Human hospitals should take note of this too.)

Dear VSEC,

I've been to VSEC many times over the past 8 to 10 years. Every time proved more and more how competent the Staff is and how exceptionally informative and competent the Doctor's/Surgeons are. If I had 2 more legs, I'd come to VSEC for my ailments. I'd like to praise Dr. Java. She was the first to examine my dog, Skip, on October 1st and as a result of her thoroughness, additional problems (besides Pancreatitis) were found in my dog which led to Surgery. Dr. Java was exceptionally informative as to each problem that existed, or possibly existed, with my dog's internal organs, and she fully explained possible treatments that may be needed. This is important to pet owners who need to know if there is treatment that could extend the life of their 4-legged family member. I could go on and on about this young woman but I'm sure you already know about the jewel you have in Doctor Java.

Mandy received the best quality of care at VSEC from her first hospitalization in December 2009 to this final stay last week. Your professionalism and concern eased us during Mandy’s hospitalizations. You kept us constantly updated on her progress and were extremely supportive to us during her last hours of life. We greatly appreciate that.

Drs. Tseng, McClain and Klag – all of you showed exemplary compassion to us during the critical days. Your front desk staff were also attentive and understanding to our needs.

Mandy was critically ill with encephalitis and all of you in some way helped us through this difficult time.

On January 19th of 2009 you performed a procedure to repair the right cranial cruciate ligament on Dixie… I remember clearly your reassuring words prior to surgery that she would run again, and run hard but, having spoken to several other trainers and veterinarians, I held little hope that Dixie would ever again realize her full measure as a sporting dog.

Difficult as it was through man y cold winter weeks, my family and I followed your instructions carefully to give her the best possible chance…I’m now ecstatic to tell you that Dixie is running and hunting as if she was never injured. She plows through the most difficult cover with reckless abandon...

Your work is simply fantastic! I thank you. My family thanks you and if Dixie could, she would certainly thank you with all her (very considerable) heart.

Dear Dr. Bossbaly,

It is a month since Bacal’s last hospitalization, a time when no one was sure if she would ever return home. And only a week later, she exhibited signs of deterioration. You helped me to confirm that the right thing to do was to make her as comfortable as possible, but not to hospitalize again. We thought her days were only a few.

Rather than completely give up, though, you suggested a dramatic increase in her medications, and some new ones we had not tried previously. Now, a month later, Bacal is still with us, enjoying her time with me, Art, and the other dogs and cats that make up her home. She is able to play with her favorite toys, go upstairs to sleep by our bed, and even play a bit in our yard.

I’m so very grateful for this time with Bacal, and so grateful to you who made it possible. Even though we said we would not “treat”, you did not give up... This combination of compassion mixed with determination is very special, and to be admired. I am thankful that Bacal has you on her team, and that I have had the opportunity to work with you.

I do not know how much longer Bacal will be with us. I’m just happy to have it, and know the part you have played in it.

My visits to VSEC have been many starting with my first visit in 2000 when I first saw Dr. Klag for my then 1 year old black and white Papillion, Kaela who was diagnosed with stomach issues (IBD). Since that visit, Dr. Klag has been my one go-to vet when my many regular vets didn't have an answer. Gem, my Tortoiseshell cat who had thyroid issues and diabetes, yet lived to 17 ½, Dixie, my Calico cat who lived to over 20 with various ailments including recovery from a serious bout of Pancreatitis, and Beau, my big beautiful grey tabby that had kidney and heart issues but still managed to live very comfortably until the ripe old age of 18. I sit here now beside Kaela, now turning 14, and think back to all her medical challenges along the way from her IBD to liver disease to gastro issues as a result of Chemo treatment for cancer. I am truly so blessed to still have her. I credit the wonderful and long lives of all my furry 4- legged children past and present to the wonderful care that Dr. Klag provides. His expertise, compassion, patience, and dedication to his patients has no equal. I am forever grateful.

The Team of Doctors and nurses are OUTSTANDING!! Our son Winston could not have been treated better or be in better hands!!
